Land Studies

Our courses give the students skills in creating and maintaining a beautiful outdoor environment for all at Chessbrook. This helps the students to develop personally, gain basic horticultural skills, develop a love of plants and improve practical skills in our beautiful gardens that the students have created over the years. There is also a particular focus on reading.

Our KS3 courses will also help the students develop life skills for their own garden experience, giving a better understanding of the natural world and the problems we face. Some will go on to do practical Horticulture at KS4 and go into an aspect of horticulture as a career. The students will gain an understanding of the importance of health and safety in the garden, aspects of teamwork and how important plants and wildlife are to the future of the planet.  We will be organic wherever possible and teach the importance of caring for our environment in a responsible way.

At KS4 the students will follow the SEG nationally industry recognised qualification in Practical Horticulture. This is an exciting and flexible course that opens the door to a career in horticulture and a lifelong love of plants, gardens and the environment.
