Saracens Foundation Mentoring - Project Breakthrough
We are very proud to be working in partnership with the Saracens Foundation who provide weekly sports mentoring for our students. The project is funded by the National Lottery’s community fund with both individual and community objectives.
Individual outcomes for students in mentoring sessions include:
Improved self-confidence
Improved attendance
Improved attitude to learning
Better relationships with peers and teachers
Increased employability opportunities
New experiences such as enrichment opportunities
As a result of the mentoring sessions, we also aim to see the following outcomes for our community:
Reduction in youth crime
Improved outreach support for students returning to mainstream
Improved relationships with parents
Improved interaction with authority
On Wednesdays at Chessbrook ESC, Emily leads small group or 1:1 sports-focused sessions that are integrated into the P.E. Curriculum. These sessions are designed to achieve mentoring outcomes, subtly embedding mentoring within the activities. This approach helps young people engage more naturally, perceiving the interactions as friendly conversations rather than formal mentoring.
Through these sessions, students improve their social skills, build better relationships with teachers and staff, enhance their emotional regulation, and boost their overall motivation.
As part of the enrichment programme, students have had the opportunity to take part in trips and visits including our very own sports day at the Stone X stadium.
Students have been able to record a podcast. Please click below to listen to the podcasts featuring our students…
