Within food technology lessons at Chessbrook, we provide students with skills for life. These include learning to cook in a safe environment, becoming independent learners and developing a passion for cooking.
We teach the students key technical skills and cooking methods to be creative and to develop an interest in the world around them. Our topics to enhance these skills and interests include healthy eating, sustainability and world foods. We take students out of the classroom into settings within the food industry to give them an experience of learning beyond the classroom.
Through our practical sessions, we develop students' love for cooking, to be resilient when making new dishes and we then celebrate their achievements in the sharing of food. We want students to be challenged, to show progression and to feel a sense of pride. Activities such as competitions, cross-curricular activities and our pop up cafe feature within the curriculum.
