SEN DEPARTMENT
The mission of the SEN Department is to raise pupils’ attainment levels. The SEN Department aims to do this by removing barriers to learning so that all students achieve their potential. The majority of pupils at Chessbrook are educated in small class groups of up to 6 pupils through differentiated teaching and learning. Our overarching aim is to raise children’s achievements and ensure that young people can lead purposeful and fulfilled lives in the community after leaving school. We want to ensure that all children with SEN get the right support at the right time and in the right way so they develop to their potential and participate as much as possible in the life of their local community. This requires each child to be involved in a range of appropriate educational and social experiences.
The SEN Department supports pupils on an individual basis by withdrawing them from lessons and working on areas of special education need. This one-to-one support and paired work enables pupils to access support through specially tailored individual programmes linked to their specific learning need.
