Humanities is taught by Roland Bennett to all Key Stage 3 pupils. Pupils receive two lessons a week in both humanities subjects.

Pupil Quotes:

“I enjoy history because it is fun and I find the work good”

“Geography is great, it’s all about the world. I really like watching D.V.D’s that bring it all to life”

Pupils are taught termly topics:

Autumn Term Geography – Environmental Citizenship, History – Medieval Britain.

Winter Term Geography – Geography of Risk, History – World Wars 1&2.

Spring Term Geography – Uneven Development, History – The Tudors & Stuarts.

Humanities teaching aims to engage pupils with stimulating topics, robust concepts and an enquiry approach designed for the new KS3 programme of study. In geography there is now a stronger focus on sustainable development and environmental change.

During the autumn term 2008 pupils followed the ‘Generation Green‘ project which aims to raise awareness amongst pupils and staff of environmental and sustainability issues. As part of the project pupils enjoyed a visit to the Hertfordshire Waste Transfer Depot at Bricket Wood, Watford.

Pupils will visit Hampton Court Palace to support teaching of HenryVIII and Tudor England during the summer term.
