Food Technology

The aim of the food technology department is to teach the children how to cook and develop their kitchen skills, to increase their self-confidence and encourage independent work.  Cooking is a life skill and most of the students simply enjoy cooking.  To that end the students cook every lesson.

KS3 students follow a comprehensive programme cooking a wide selection of dishes, and also participate in the licence to cook module.

KS4 students follow Entry level course which is a more practically based route and involves the completion of 4 practical assignments and a one hour written paper. The GCSE Food Technology (short course) consists of a 20 hour project and a one hour written paper.  The project enables each student to devise their own product using research methods and become independent thinkers. They will also complete the Charted Institute of Environmental health Level 2 Food safety course in Catering, a nationally recognised qualification.
