Art and Design
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3 pupils develop their creativity and imagination through sustained activities. These help them to build on and improve their practical and critical skills and to extend their knowledge and experience of materials, process and practices.
Students are taught:
- To explore and create ideas – record and devlop from first hand observation, investigate and express work in a range of media using sketchbooks or other work journals.
- To understand & Evaluate– research and investigate using the internet and library. Annotate work clearly & simply and refine work as it progresses. Analyse and question their own developing work.
- Range & Content– to explore work in all areas/disciplines of art. To explore media & processes in 2D & 3D. To study artefacts from contemporary through to cultural contexts. To work safely within a classroom.
- Enhance & Engage with works of others– Visting a gallery or museum independently. Working independently with others, acting respondsibly & negotiating and sharing with others in the group.
Key Stage 4
The course is based on a specification which should encourage candidates to develop in the following areas
- Developing Ideas and different approaches to the development. Using Contextual materials (works of other artists) to inform & inspire investigations
- Using resources, media and materials. To select and use appropriate media and experiment with varying materials and processes. Refining ideas.
- Recording ideas and Observations with intention to project
- Making a personal & meaningful response. Making connections between different elements of your work & realising your intentions.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to:
- Record observation, experience and ideas
- Analyse and evaluate images, objects and artefacts
- Develop and explore ideas using media, process and resources, reviewing, modifying and refining their work
- Present a personal response, realising intentions and making informed connections with the work of others
