Support for Year 11 leavers
Year 11 students have group Work Skills lessons or 1:1 support to help them with college or apprenticeship applications, writing a CV and getting ready for the world of work including: interview skills, Health and Safety, economic wellbeing, preparing CVs, cover letters and application forms.
Students can access Cascaid Kudos at school and at home - a careers website that helps students to make future career choices and provides information on a vast number of jobs and careers.
Students are able to undertake work experience placements either on a weekly basis or as a one/two week block- sometimes this can lead to an apprenticeship on leaving school.
2 Youth Connexions PAs come to Chessbrook regularly and all Year 11s have the opportunity to speak to a PA frequently and plan what they want to do when they leave school.
Your First Interview comes to Chessbrook in December and gives all Year 11s two mock interviews and feedback on their CVs. Students find this very helpful with college and apprenticeship interviews approaching after Christmas.
In February, Chessbrook holds Year 11 Day for students & parents to agree exam entries, meet with college, apprenticeship providers and Youth Connexions to confirm plans for year 12.
Chessbrook holds an after school revision club for all Year 11s in the spring term.
Chessbrook has strong links with West Herts College; students have the opportunity to try “Taster Days” in the courses they are thinking of taking in Year 12.
Chessbrook works closely with apprenticeship and traineeship providers such as First Rung and 3AAA.
TCHC can help students who have not obtained more than one GCSE above a D. They also work with young people who have been released from custody or who are/were in local authority care, regardless of the number of GCSEs or grades they have achieved.
