During this academic year Chessbrook has supported many charity events. Our school continues to support and help raise money for Herts Air Ambulance, Jeans for Genes, Children in Need, Comic Relief and Watford New Hope Trust. In December Chessbrook supported Samaritan’s Purse by assembling 18 shoe boxes which were sent to underprivileged children, filling the shoe boxes with lots of goodies hoping to put a smile on a child’s face. In March, our school had a fun non uniform day, dedicated to Red Nose Day.
Chessbrook has been involved with supporting a child through Action Aid. Through our sponsorship we were able to support a young boy from Somaliland and supply him with food and resources to help him make his daily life a little easier.
Princes Trust XL is personal development programme aimed at young people, aged between 14-16. Prince’s Trust works on unit awards. It encourages team work, domestic skills, life skills etc. Students work towards units to achieve an overall award. One of the units allows the students to support the old people’s home in Watford. Students visit the home and spend time with the elderly e.g. socializing and chatting, taking part in a fun quiz and putting up Christmas decorations
Each year the staff, friends and families at Chessbrook pound the pavements, put on their walking shoes and show their support for Peace Hospice Care by taking part in the Starlight Walk, walking for 13 miles, at night around the Watford area.
For the last few years Chessbrook have taken part in the Big Pedal competition. In March students and staff are encourages to pedal to school by scooter or bicycle. Over the course of 10 Days schools compete and earn points, having the opportunity to win great prices.
Over the last six years Chessbrook have been running an Annual Plant Sale, where plants are grown and sold by the students to the public. The money raised by the students goes back into school to the support of the garden and outdoor area.
